You are eligible to consolidate federal student loans when:
1. You are no longer enrolled in school (defined as being enrolled less than half time)
2. You must be in the "grace period" of the loan or must be actively repaying your loan.
3. Most consolidation companies as a rule require a minimum loan amount $10,000.
Most federal education loans are eligible for consolidation. Here is the list of them: Direct and FFEL Stafford Loans, SLS, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Nursing Loans, and Health Education Assistance Loans. PLUS Loans (parent loans) also can be consolidated.
